Artist's Comments

Finally finished this one..
What the design for the SDF4 would have looked like
had the Robotech: Evolution website continued..

The new design of the fortress was to feature an organically shaped hull simular to Zentreidi ships,it had a fixed shape and was not transformable, and featured a tri-hull design for the main cannon.

Critiques

:icondreamwa1ker:
Wow,

What an extravagant design made near perfect by the quality of the lighting and the fact that it's textured.

This design is what it is, over the top, unrealistic and just sheer brash and unashamed fantasy that probably wouldn't be up to everyones taste. Certainly if this design had only been sketched I probably would have flashed passed it giving it only a glancing view but to see it rendered like it has been is an inspiration.

In terms of design, there are things I would have done differently with the shape as this is a warship, mostly with the bottom pylon/mast looking like a structural weak point, but it considering the universe and the premise - it really doesn't matter. Also, i've built a ship around a big ass gun... +A

The only comment I would have to make would be on the texturing, would have been nice to see some variation in the reflectiveness of the material, but beyond that great model, finely rendered.

Great work, I would very much like to see more ships modeled and rendered like this...

Never been a Big Robotech Fan myself. Carl Macken destruction of the finest anime stories known to man.

But VERY impressive 3d model though! Awesome detail with your Model. What programs are you using?

Thanks! I'm thinking of adding a few more gun batteries here and there, maybe adjust a decal or two along the hull, add a lttle more detail to the antenna array behind the bridge tower, maybe a few more lights around the ship.. little stuff like that.

Yeah,I'd prefer the Macross series more.. but none the less this was meant for the robotech universe.

This is all done within 3D Studio Max v.8,with Photoshop for texturing.

Sweet EastCoast....

Need to try working with 3DS Max someday.

Looking good man!

have you any plans to do the SDF-1 or any of her transformable successors in the art style you've done your version of the VF-19 in?

had to ask, as you did such fine work on this magnificent ship.

by the way, can you render a larger sized version of this picture?

Hmm.. I might try building it in 3D if I do.

I'll be re-updating this pic later since I made some small additions to it.I'll try resizing it then.

Its a big program that takes a while to learn (Studied it while taking a 3D animation course for over a year). The program itself is a bit expensive, but you should be able to find the trial version on Autodesk's website for free.

I personally XSI Softimage. Tried using Max but never really liked it. I heard it more User Friendly. So I mite check it out. Keep them coming man.
